Shannon A Hayes, PhD
Philosopher based in Nashville, TN.

My research is in aesthetics and continental philosophy (especially critical theory and phenomenology). I am interested in the temporal, aesthetic, and social qualities of affective responses to loss, like mourning and melancholy. How does loss shape and inform lived experience? What happens in the wake of loss when mourning is impossible or incomplete? Such questions inform my research and address both the personal losses incurred by individuals and the collective losses of beings who would be bound to one another across relations of mourning.
